A seven-year-old boy was killed after being attacked by a dog Saturday, police in Maine have said.
According to local media deputies from the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office were responding to a call about a dog attack in Corinna and found the seven-year-old boy.
Deputies are still investigating the death, so far the boy's name and the breed of the dog have not been released.
Police said no other parties were injured during the incident, and the dog has been impounded.
A person claiming to be the dog's previous and the victim's cousin, told local news that the dog never showed signs of being aggressive.
"Being his owner since he was a puppy, I know him better than anyone and want everyone to know that he was not dangerous or vicious. Yes, he did something tragic, but he never showed signs of being aggressive … He was a good and loving dog," she was quoted saying by wlbz2.
According to dog bite victims' group Dogbites.org between 2005 and 2015 canines killed 360 Americans. The group adds that Pit bulls contributed to 64% of these deaths.
The seven-year boy becomes the sixth child out of 12 people who died following a dog attack this year.
