Bulyanhulu spends over 4bn/- on development projects

BULYANHULU Gold Mine spent 4.4bn/- last year to support various social development projects to communities around the mine.

This was said in the National Assembly here yesterday by the Deputy Minister for Energy and Minerals, Dr Mendrad Kalemani when responding to a question by Msalala MP, Mr Ezekiel Maige (CCM).
The legislator had wanted to know how much has been offered by the mine to support development projects to communities surrounding the firm. He also wanted to know why Bulyanhulu Gold Mine has failed to implement its project through Msalala Council
.
In response, Dr Kalemani said last year, the mine through ‘Development Fund’ disbursed 1.98 million US dollars (about 4.4bn/-) to support various projects, especially in infrastructure. He said Msalala and Nyangw’ale districts were the beneficiaries.
He further said that so far, the company has employed 1,168 locals in which 517 out of them come from communities surrounding the mine. The company has been spending on social infrastructure to drive wealth creation in communities by providing support for entrepreneurs, enhancing agribusinesses and funding soccer.
