The Tony Awards 2016: the nominations in full - Hamilton makes history with sixteen nods

The hit musical Hamilton has made theatrical history by scoring a record 16 nominations at the Tony Awards
. The musical, created by Lin-Manuel Miranda (who also stars), fuses rap music (anachronistically) with the story of America's founding father, Alexander Hamilton. Among the many famous faces who have been spotted at the Richard Rodgers Theatre are Barack Obama and Madonna.
The previous record for most nominations is held by The Producers, based on the classic Mel Brooks film, which was nominated for 15 awards in 2001.
As usual, the British are well represented in the line-up. The Best Actor list sees veteran actor Tim Pigott-Smith nominated against Mark Strong who won rave reviews for his performance as Eddie Carbone in A View from the Bridge. While young British actor Richard Goulding has been nominated for Best Actor in a Featured role for performance as Prince Harry in King Charles III. Goulding will also play the prince in Channel 4's upcoming spoof The Windsors.
The Tonys will be announced in New York on June 12.
